Starts with the bees
The story of the Bee's Way Honey Company begins with a backyard garden and a single raised vegetable bed. One raised bed became two; two became three and ultimately we were tending about a dozen in total including wildflower beds to help attract native pollinators. We enjoyed the fruits (and vegetables) of our labor for a few years experimenting growing different heirloom open-pollinated organic seeds from around the country and world.
We would see a few honey bees from time to time, particularly on our squash and basil which they seemed to really enjoy. It just did not seem like there were as many bees around as we would have expected. Our own backyard beehive might be the answer? The family was not convinced to make the leap until one summer vacation in Montana with my sister's family. Her husband had installed a colony of honey bees in their backyard garden the spring before and we were there just in time to sample to first honey harvest ever. That one jar of the lightest colored, thickest and best tasting honey we had ever tasted sealed the deal. Never again would we buy honey. Montana was a bit too far to travel each time we needed a new jar, so the answer was obvious - we needed our own bees.
The Bee's Way Honey Company was born the very next spring with one colony of bees. Not only did we want the bees for pollination, but we were going to enjoy that honey and share it with as many others as we could. To create the absolute best product, we were dedicated to natural beekeeping to the best of our abilities. No plastic honeycombs, no treatments, no artificial feeding of sugar water or pollen substitutes. We knew if, given the chance, the bees would survive one way or another on their own. We were right and we want you to taste the difference.
